I love this time of year, everyone is upbeat, the scoreboard has been reset and the glimmer of hope and perseverance gleans over everyone. The question is, how do we keep that feeling, that momentum throughout the year?

How would you define "being productive"? I know plenty of people that are always busy with their day-to-day grind but are they actually being productive? I define productivity as completing an activity that is driving forward a major goal or initiative.

Establishing trust and transparency within ourselves can be difficult and often times we become the victim of our own thoughts and lack of guts in asking the tough questions. So why in the moment do we wimp out?

What I’ve noticed about myself is the negative "what if's" consume me. I've wasted a countless amount of time worrying about outcomes I have no immediate control over, it can be overwhelming and completely and utterly useless. Most of what I worry about truly never comes to fruition anyway. So why waste the brain cells, right? Now, the question is, how do you stop the "what if" game in your head?

Time management is the number one issue that I hear from people today, but how can we possibly take on more when we can't even get done what we have today?

Collectively over the years I've heard every excuse as to why people don't need to track metrics. "You don't understand I'm just too busy to track that type of thing," or "what is that really going to do for me in the long run." Well, in the long run, if you truly understand what the outcomes are statistically every time you pick up the phone or attend a networking event, couldn't you predict the future? Wouldn’t that make life a little less stressful?

Growth can be difficult. It forces us to view our own inefficiencies and ourselves through a mirror. For some, it won’t work and they won’t be a part of your organization for long. Others will thrive under your new found structure.

Today’s workplace environments are ever-changing, and a lot of that is contributed to the growing number of millennials entering the corporate workforce. We can either choose to fight these changes or embrace them. Knowing the way millennials operate can benefit the company and understand how to best utilize their strengths.
